A backsteinhaus production
„Looking for like minded individuals who would like to meet new people, who enjoy
role play and want to live out their fantasy.”

Av@tar is a dance theatre performance aimed at young people and adults, focusing
on human interaction and the inability or shame of expressing ones deepest wishes
or of escaping from who you are; The unavoidable birthday party.

Av@tar tells a story about anonymous identities and secret dreams, inspired by
computer games, the Internet and communication programs, in which an avatar is a
digital representation of a human being in the virtual world; A place where the
impossible may become possible and the boundaries between truth and fiction are
blurred.

Press cuttings:

“The young man plays the title song from „Star Wars“ in cheap plastic sounds from

his synthesizer, the young girl growls „Born to be wild“ into the microphone. Tired

colourful light bulbs hang around, at the back stands a door without a wall and the

kitchen floor is tiled in white. It is clear that something is going to be celebrated, but

the birthday girl, the gnarled pensioner in the glittery street-wear, throws the cake

against the wall.”

„Surreal and beautifully absurd Dance Theater with three fascinating and

unstoppable dancers, Britta Gemmer, Diane Marstboom and Robert Skatulla.“

„Extreme physical theatre to cheerful accordion folk music, a love story with passion

and pain. As absurd as all of the images may be (Its hard to find a comparison for

Nicki Lisztas wild imagination in the current dance scene), they do not feel artificial

for one minute.”
